When I though about putting an Epoxy floor on my well worn warehouse floor, I tackled the task with the optimism that my only job was to find out which company was the most reasonably priced and still gave a quality install. My education began there. All epoxy floor products are not created equal!
If you will be painting your garage or kitchen and other areas with uneven humidity and prone to acidic elements, epoxy is the best recommended. Epoxy is the most durable type. It can last longer and can protect floors from sudden wear and tear. Furthermore it is also resistant to oil accumulation. It is advised that when applying epoxy paint on your garage floor, clean and de-grease the area thoroughly to achieve best results of painting application. On the other hand, oil-based provide smooth and shiny finish and are best partnered with polyurethane for durability. It should be reminded that when applying urethane, it should be left dry for at least 48 hours before coating it with urethane.
Of course, to protect your boat from weathering conditions, you will want to paint it. You’ll want to use a poison paint below the waterline as a means to prevent marine growth. Above the waterline, you have much more flexibility.
When choosing a garage floor paint/Epoxy for wood go with the epoxy choice. I have never seen a paint for a garage floor that stands up well to hot tire pick up, no matter what the paint store sales person says. Hot tire pick up is simply when you pull into your garage after being out driving and your tires are hot enough that an inferior product on your garage floor will actually pull off the floor and stick to your tires. Talk about a mess. Look for a two part epoxy kit with color flecks and non-slip additive available in the kit. Your typical kit will include a small can of activator, a large gallon can of the base of the epoxy, colored flecks to add for aesthetic appearance, and non-slip additive. Simply follow the directions on the box to apply the paint.
Now for the repair, set a heat gun with a nozzle shield to medium and then use it to soften the glaze compound on the window. Scrape away the glazing compound using a putty knife. Remove from the wood and slide the glass out. Label the glass with a temporary market to indicate which side goes where.
Therefore my advice here is pick a good quality, well known brand of ‘marine’ wood epoxy. It may be more expensive in the short term, but will work out better in the long run.
After drying and twisting, put it back on the sawmill and wedge it so you can cut the intended size beam from the core. When finished you will have a super strong and beautiful beam. I would guess that the beam strength would be in excess of 5 times stronger than pine. Red Gum is plentiful and it grows fast and large. It is also considered a low cost source of logs. If you will take your time, you can build a structure that will last very long time.
Testing: Some people would say that this is the best part (I like the building part). Find yourself some water and have fun. Make sure you take lots of pictures and share them with everyone else.
